The Australasian Swamphens are common throughout Australia in can be found around freshwater swamps, streams and marshes. Their diet includes the soft shoots of reeds and rushes and small animals, such as frogs and snails. They also use their long toes to grasp food when eating. Their chicks have no colour when they are young, and are instead all black and really fluffy with large feet - look up 'swamphen chicks' to see just how cute and fluffy they are!
